Muzak Heart & Soul Foundation Battle of the Bands will take place in two parts.  Part one will be preliminary auditions of all bands that register to narrow down the group.  Part two will consist of the 8 bands chosen from the preliminary auditions. 

• Each band is required to register before the deadline date (different for each city). 
• Each band is required to have 2 to 8 members.
• No more than 50% of your band members can perform with another band.
• At least 2 members of the band must currently be enrolled in high school.
• Only pre-registered bands are permitted to play.
• Bands must use backline and drums provided.
• Sound checks will not be permissible at the auditions or at the event.

Preliminary Auditions: each band that registers will have the opportunity to audition for the Battle of the Bands final event.  Specific dates for preliminary auditions will be announced after the registration deadline.  These auditions will take place on a Saturday. 

• Bands will have 8-minute sets.
• Bands must play one song of their choice.
• Bands are not permitted to bring fans/family during audition.

Battle of the Bands Event: 8 bands will be chosen from preliminary auditions to play at each final event (Charlotte, Nashville, Chicago). 

• Bands will have 12-minute sets.
• Each band must play one cover song and two original songs within their set. 
• If a band runs over its 12-minute set the sound board will be turned off and points will be deducted. 
• Bands are not permitted to “just jam”.
• Only pre-registered band members will be permitted on stage during performance.

Registering Your Band:

All bands registering for Muzak Heart & Soul Battle of the Bands must read and accept the rules and regulations before completing the registration form.

Muzak Heart & Soul Battle of the Bands is open to all bands whether unsigned or signed to a record label.  There is no pre-selection and no demos are required.  All bands who register are guaranteed to play in the preliminary band auditions. In completing the registration form you are acknowledging that you have read and accepted the Rules and Regulations.

Preliminary Audition Voting: There will be a panel of five Muzak Executive (music-savvy) judges.

Battle of the Bands Event: Bands will be judged by a panel of five judges and fan ballots. 

Fans – 30%

• An audience ticket stub will count as one vote for a band and will be dropped in a ballot box by a predetermined time.

Judges – 70%

• Each judge will contribute 20% to the vote
• Judges will award points on the following criteria:
      1.  Musicianship
      2.  Originality
      3.  Stage Presence
      4.  Overall Impression
